What image resolution should I use?

Answer:
Most scanners support resolutions of 50dpi to greater than 600dpi. In general, in order to keep file sizes as small as possible you should scan in as low a resolution as is usable for your purposes. For OCR purposes, 300dpi should be considered minimum.

What is OCR?

Answer:
OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition, which is how a computer converts words in a scanned image to searchable text. OCR is necessary in order to use full-text indexing and searches. OCR engines can usually recognize only typed or printed text, not handwriting.
